And now for some recent insights:

I have been exploring with some clients the place in our heart that gets crushed when our first romantic love ends.  We so innocently and uninhibitedly throw ourselves into that first Love because we have no idea of the pain that will ensue if it fails.  And, when it did end, which happened for most of us, we started to protect our Hearts, often unconsciously, from ever “falling head over heels in love” again.  As I have been working with peoples’ “Romantic Wounding,” some couples have found new corners of vulnerability that have allowed them to fall in love with their partners more deeply, like being teenagers again.  And single people have been more willing to risk getting into a new relationship as they see how they have unconsciously kept themselves from finding a partner.
I am also seeing the similarities between “Romantic Wounding” and “Spiritual Wounding.”  Many of us threw ourselves into some specific spiritual teaching when we were younger and had some profound experiences.  However, at some point, our “spiritual honeymoon” ended.  We felt disillusioned by that path and left that teaching.  What we may not be aware of is how that disillusionment has left us feeling spiritually betrayed and unable to trust in the “Mystery” the way we first did.  Just the recognition of this wounding is the first step in re-igniting our “spiritual innocence.”  We will never be a “spiritual virgin” again.  But if we unconsciously keep playing it safe, we will not reap the rewards of jumping off of the next spiritual cliff and rising in Love.
